City of Syracuse
I-81 / I-690 / I-90 NYS Thruway
The urban core of Central New York. Syracuse contains downtown (Clinton Square, Armory Square historic district, the Onondaga County War Memorial, the Landmark Theatre), Syracuse University's University Hill (with the JMA Wireless Dome, SU's ~21,000 students, SUNY Upstate Medical University, SUNY ESF, and the Crouse Hospital complex), the historic neighborhoods of Eastwood, Strathmore, Westcott Nation, the Inner Harbor revitalization area, and the Destiny USA shopping/entertainment megamall (the 6th-largest mall in the United States) on the edge of Onondaga Lake. Syracuse's name comes from the ancient Sicilian city and reflects the area's 19th-century dominance as the U.S. salt industry's 'Salt City.'
