The Illinois portion of the St. Louis MSA, known as 'Metro East,' spanning eight counties. The primary population centers are Belleville (St. Clair County, the largest Illinois city in the metro), O'Fallon (IL), Collinsville, Edwardsville (Madison County, home of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville), Granite City (historic steel city), Alton (Madison County), Fairview Heights (Fairview Heights Mall corridor), Glen Carbon, Maryville, Troy (IL), Highland, Columbia (Monroe County), Waterloo, and Wood River. Scott Air Force Base (home of US Transportation Command) is in St. Clair County. The Metro East is connected to downtown St. Louis by the Martin Luther King Bridge, the Eads Bridge, and the Poplar Street Bridge plus the MetroLink Red and Blue lines.
