Beaver County sits northwest of Pittsburgh along the Ohio River, at the western end of the metro. Anchored by the Borough of Beaver (the county seat, a historic small river town), the City of Aliquippa (a former steel town, birthplace of NFL stars Mike Ditka and Ty Law), Ambridge (named for the American Bridge Company), Beaver Falls (home of Geneva College and former quarterback Joe Namath), Monaca (home to the Shell Polymers Monaca ethane cracker plant — a multi-billion-dollar petrochemical facility that opened in 2022), Rochester, New Brighton, Hopewell Township, Center Township, Chippewa Township, and Economy Borough. The Montour Trail connects Beaver County to Pittsburgh.
