I-2 West

The western corridor of the metro, stretching from Mission (pop. ~87,000) -- the third-largest city -- west through Palmview, La Joya, Penitas, and Sullivan City. Mission is home to the 6,000-acre Sharyland Plantation master-planned community and the Sharyland ISD, one of the top-rated school districts in the Valley. Alton and Palmhurst sit between Mission and Edinburg. The area transitions from suburban development near Mission to more rural, agricultural communities farther west along the Rio Grande. Interstate 2 was extended west through this corridor to Penitas in 2024.
