Winter Haven & Chain of Lakes

The eastern anchor of the metro, centered on Winter Haven — Polk County's second-largest city and the historic home of Cypress Gardens (now LEGOLAND Florida). Winter Haven is defined by its own chain of lakes, with over 50 named lakes within or adjacent to the city. Auburndale, between Lakeland and Winter Haven along US-92, is a growing family community. Lake Alfred sits at the junction of US-17 and US-92 with easy access to both major cities. Eagle Lake, south of Winter Haven along US-17, provides small-town living. The Winter Haven Area Transit (WHAT) system, now integrated into Citrus Connection, serves the eastern county with numbered routes connecting Winter Haven, Auburndale, Lake Alfred, and points south. The area offers lower housing costs than Lakeland's core while maintaining access to employment and amenities.
