Smoky Mountains Gateway
US 441 / Parkway
The tourism-driven communities of Sevier County along the US 441 corridor leading to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park -- the most visited national park in the United States (12+ million visitors annually). Sevierville (pop. 17,900), the county seat and Dolly Parton's birthplace, anchors the northern end with outlet shopping and the Tennessee Smokies minor league ballpark. Pigeon Forge (pop. 6,300) is home to Dollywood theme park and the Pigeon Forge Parkway entertainment strip. Gatlinburg (pop. 3,600), nestled at the park entrance in a narrow mountain valley, functions as the park's primary gateway village. While the permanent population is modest, the area's tourism economy and seasonal workforce make it a distinct regional hub.
