Perry County sits west of the Susquehanna River and north of Cumberland County. It is the smallest and most rural of the three Harrisburg MSA counties. Anchored by New Bloomfield (the Perry County seat), Duncannon (at the confluence of the Juniata and Susquehanna rivers — the gateway to Perry County and a major Appalachian Trail town, where the AT crosses the Susquehanna River via the Clarks Ferry Bridge), Newport, Marysville, Liverpool (on the Susquehanna), Landisburg, Millerstown, Blain, New Buffalo, and the rural townships. The region is characterized by rolling Appalachian foothills, forested ridges, and small historic towns.
