The southern tier of the Greensboro-High Point metro, centered on the county seat of Asheboro — gateway to the North Carolina Zoo, the largest natural-habitat zoo in the world. Randleman, Liberty, and smaller towns dot the rolling Piedmont landscape along US-220 (future I-73) and NC-49. Randolph County's manufacturing heritage in furniture, textiles, and pottery (the Seagrove pottery district) gives way to growing residential development, especially in the northern communities closest to High Point and Greensboro.
