I-20 West

The suburban and small-town communities along the I-20 and US-1 corridor west and southwest of Columbia, anchored by the town of Lexington -- the county seat and largest town in Lexington County. Lexington has grown rapidly, with a downtown revitalization, strong schools in Lexington School Districts One and Two, and a family-friendly atmosphere. Red Bank, a large CDP south of West Columbia, provides affordable suburban living. Farther west, Gilbert and Batesburg-Leesville offer small-town character with lower housing costs. Gaston and South Congaree round out the southern edge of the corridor. The area benefits from easy I-20 access to downtown Columbia (15-25 minutes) and proximity to the Congaree National Park.
