Iredell & Rowan Counties

The outer northern corridor beyond Lake Norman, stretching from Mooresville's northern edge through Troutman and Statesville in Iredell County to Salisbury and smaller Rowan County towns along I-85 Northeast. This region represents the metro's exurban frontier -- fast-growing (Iredell County projected to grow 58% by 2050), with newer residential subdivisions, lower land costs, and a semi-rural character. Statesville (pop. 28,400+) is the Iredell County seat with a historic downtown and proximity to I-40/I-77. Salisbury (pop. 37,200+) is the Rowan County seat with a rich historic district and a growing arts scene. China Grove and Kannapolis's northern reaches provide a transition between the Cabarrus suburbs and Rowan County. Commutes to Uptown Charlotte are 40-55 minutes from Statesville and 45-60 minutes from Salisbury.
