James Island & Folly Beach

The barrier islands and marshlands south and southeast of downtown Charleston. James Island (pop. ~22,000 including unincorporated area) sits between the Ashley and Stono rivers with quick access to both downtown and the beach. Folly Beach -- 'The Edge of America' -- is Charleston's closest and most popular public beach, known for its surf culture, the Folly Beach Pier, and a laid-back vibe. Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island to the southwest are exclusive resort and residential communities with world-class golf.
