I-64 Putnam

The fast-growing communities of Putnam County, located west of Kanawha County along the I-64 corridor. This is the only county in the Charleston metro that gained population in the 2020 Census. Hurricane (pop. 6,961) is the largest incorporated city, and the Teays Valley CDP (pop. 14,350) -- encompassing Scott Depot and surrounding areas -- is the largest community in the county. Winfield, the county seat on the Kanawha River, and nearby Eleanor and Poca round out the settled area. Buffalo anchors the rural northern end. Putnam County is known for top-rated schools, newer subdivisions, and family-oriented living with a 20-30 minute commute to downtown Charleston.
