The two outer Cedar Rapids MSA counties: Benton County (west, anchored by Vinton, the county seat, and Belle Plaine along US-218) and Jones County (east, anchored by Anamosa — home of the Anamosa State Penitentiary and Grant Wood's art studio in Stone City). Both counties offer rural small-town character with practical commuting distance to Cedar Rapids.
