The commercial, cultural, and governmental heart of Lee County, centered on the city of Fort Myers along the Caloosahatchee River. Downtown Fort Myers features the historic River District with restored buildings, dining, and the winter estates of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. South of the city core, unincorporated communities like Cypress Lake, Villas, Whiskey Creek, McGregor, and Iona form a mature suburban belt along US-41 (Cleveland Avenue) and McGregor Boulevard.
