The eastern half of Niagara County centered on Lockport — the Erie Canal town famous for its dramatic 'flight of five' locks lifting boats 60 feet over the Niagara Escarpment. Includes the City of Lockport, the Town of Lockport, Pendleton, the Town of Royalton (Middleport village), the Town of Cambria, Hartland, and Newfane. The region is rural-agricultural with apple orchards, fruit farms, and historic Erie Canal towns. Much of the eastern Niagara County area is characterized by the fertile Ontario Plain south of the lake.
