The central eastern portion of Fairfield County along the I-95/Metro-North corridor. Anchored by Bridgeport — Connecticut's largest city by population (~148,000), home to the University of Bridgeport, Housatonic Community College, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers AHL hockey team, the Barnum Museum (honoring P.T. Barnum, who was mayor of Bridgeport), and the historic shoreline and Seaside Park. The region also includes the Town of Fairfield (home to Fairfield University, Sacred Heart University, and the walkable Post Road commercial district), Stratford (home to Sikorsky Aircraft helicopter plant and the Stratford Festival theater), Trumbull (a large suburban town with the Westfield Trumbull Mall), Monroe, Easton (rural estate town), and Shelton (in New Haven County along the Housatonic River, but economically part of the Bridgeport metro).
