The Massachusetts North Shore is the coast north of Boston. Anchored by Lynn (the first 'shoe city' of America, home of General Electric's original Lynn Works plant), Salem (the 'Witch City' — site of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials, now a major tourist destination with the Salem Witch Museum, the Peabody Essex Museum, and the House of the Seven Gables), Peabody, Beverly (home of Endicott College and historically the first summer home of a US President, William Howard Taft), Marblehead ('the yachting capital of America'), Swampscott, Nahant, Saugus, Danvers, Lynnfield, Wakefield, Reading, Melrose, and Stoneham. Served by the MBTA Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail Line.
