Bethlehem & Central Lehigh Valley

I-78 / PA-378 / PA-412 / US-22

The City of Bethlehem straddles the Lehigh/Northampton county line along the Lehigh River. Bethlehem is historically significant as a 1741 Moravian Church settlement — the Moravian Historic District and the Central Moravian Church remain cultural anchors. Bethlehem was also the home of Bethlehem Steel, once the second-largest steel producer in the US; the former steel mill site has been redeveloped into the Wind Creek Bethlehem casino, the ArtsQuest / SteelStacks festival venue, and the PBS 39 Public Media Center. The region also includes Lehigh University (on South Mountain in Bethlehem), Moravian University (the 6th-oldest continuously operating college in the US), Hellertown, Fountain Hill, Freemansburg, Lower Saucon Township, Hanover Township (Northampton), Bethlehem Township, and Coopersburg.
