Troy is Rensselaer County's seat and historical 'Collar City' (home to the 19th-century detachable shirt collar industry). Troy contains Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI, founded 1824, the oldest technological university in the English-speaking world), the Russell Sage College for Women, the Emma Willard School, the historic Hart-Cluett Mansion, the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall (acclaimed for its acoustics), the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market, and the cast-iron buildings of downtown Troy that have served as filming locations for many period films. The region also includes the neighboring cities of Rensselaer (east bank opposite Albany, home to the Albany-Rensselaer Amtrak station) and the immediate suburbs of East Greenbush and North Greenbush.
