Anchored by Niskayuna — the Capital Region's wealthiest school district and home to the GE Global Research center (General Electric's primary R&D facility) — along with Rotterdam (the suburb south and west of Schenectady along NY-7), Scotia (a small village across the Mohawk River from Schenectady), Glenville (north of the Mohawk), and Duanesburg (rural western edge). Most residents commute to Schenectady, Albany, or the GlobalFoundries fab in Malta.
